About the Role

Under general supervision, operates, monitors, and maintains the City’s wastewater treatment facilities and related equipment. This is a night-shift position.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment processes, including pumps, valves, motors, and chemical feed systems.
• Perform routine inspections of equipment and facilities to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Collect and analyze wastewater samples for laboratory testing; record and report data accurately.
• Maintain and clean equipment, tanks, and facilities to ensure operational efficiency.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and system malfunctions; troubleshoot and perform minor repairs.
• Assist in the maintenance of lift stations and sewer collection systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks and document work performed.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with the preparation of reports and documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Arizona Class D driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a Grade I Wastewater Operator Certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) within one year of employment.
• Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory guidelines.
• Physical ability to perform tasks in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in various weather conditions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required.

Pay

$20.15 - $24.63 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

Night shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, four days on, three days off rotation.
