About the Role
The General Manager drives the company’s key performance indicators by delivering an exceptional customer store experience at all Todd Snyder locations. This role exercises independent judgment in developing, implementing, and communicating store strategies and business plans aligned with brand strategies. In partnership with Store Leadership, the General Manager is accountable for teaching, training, and coaching store management into high-performing teams that achieve sales goals, meet merchandising standards, and deliver operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Motivate and inspire the team by delivering a compelling vision aligned with the company’s goals.
- Create and lead an environment ensuring customer satisfaction, productivity, and profitability by implementing company and brand business plans.
- Establish clear expectations and hold the store management team accountable for brand, performance, and behavior standards.
- Build and support relationships with peers, supervisors, field leadership, and cross-functional partners to drive positive change.
- Facilitate communication across the store organization and act as a liaison with field leadership and business partners.
- Model brand customer service standards and "Customer First" selling behaviors as the leader on duty.
- Seek personal learning and development opportunities to enhance leadership skills and performance.
- Drive for Results
- Establish store business strategies, including sales forecasting that reflects trends and calculated risks to drive growth.
- Create and manage the execution of store business plans to maximize KPI results, including CRM, loyalty programs, and technology.
- Provide feedback on brand initiatives, customer insights, and market trends to drive growth.
- Manage the controllable components of the P&L to achieve financial and expense targets.
- Analyze reporting and daily sales trends to make real-time strategic decisions.
- Train and develop the management team on business acumen to drive performance.
- Lead the use of technology to enhance customer engagement and KPI results.
- Evaluate store sales and payroll goals daily, adjusting schedules to meet business needs.
- Talent Management
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing management team.
- Teach, train, and coach the store management team.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and assessments.
- Develop succession plans to ensure career paths for all associates.
- Lead the annual review process for store management and associates.
- Collaborate with Store Leadership to write performance reviews.
- Manage compensation decisions in partnership with Human Resources.
- Drive employee engagement through recognition and rewards for outstanding performance.
- Ensure adherence to and enforcement of employment practices and policies.
- Resolve customer and performance issues, escalating high-priority concerns to the District Manager.
- Visual & Operational Execution
- Conduct weekly visual walk-throughs with merchandise managers to direct strategic merchandising.
- Maintain brand standards for a neat, clean, and organized sales floor, cash wrap, and fitting rooms.
- Lead all visual directives, ensuring mapping and floorsets are planned, scheduled, and executed seamlessly.
- Generate and analyze merchandise reports to direct merchandising moves that maximize sales.
- Supervise efficient handling of merchandise, including shipment receipt, processing, floorsets, markdowns, and replenishment.
- Oversee daily operational procedures to ensure efficiency.
- Ensure store audit compliance and shrink results meet company loss prevention standards.
Requirements
- Minimum high school education or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of retail or equivalent management experience.
- Strong prioritization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and planning skills.
- Knowledge of employment laws, including compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and competing priorities.
- Skilled at making quality decisions in fast-paced and complex environments.
- Strong communication, presentation, delegation, and follow-up skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of corporate and field leadership.
- Proficient in conflict management and resolution.
- Demonstrated proficiency in training, sales generation, and leading functional teams.
- Proven ability to analyze business trends and reporting to drive sales.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, provide feedback, and manage substandard performance.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to lead multiple non-contiguous locations as needed.
- Capacity to lead high-potential management teams and sizeable store teams.
