About the role
Performs highly advanced investigative work as an administrative physician reviewer in the Pre-Investigations Section of the Investigations Department. Ensures that medical decisions are made in accordance with statutory requirements, applicable rules, established policies and procedures, and agency strategic objectives. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports directly to the Director of Investigations.
Responsibilities
- Reviews complaints received by the agency, the associated medical records, and physician narratives to determine if the standard of care was met.
- Determines if complaints received should be filed for formal investigation.
- Works with the Pre-Investigations Section to ensure adequate information is available prior to making decisions regarding opening a formal investigation. This may include reviewing additional material provided by a complainant or other person with relevant information.
- Ensures that appropriate priority is assigned to complaints involving serious patient harm or patient death.
- Refers eligible standard of care cases to the Medical Director for complaint resolution using the Delegated Staff Process.
- Works in coordination with staff and ensures appropriate documentation is entered for processing of correspondence.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited university or college of medicine with a degree as a Medical Doctor required
- Must be licensed as a medical doctor by the State of Texas
- Experience in medical, clinical, or public health work required
- Completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education required

- Knowledge of medical methods, procedures, and trends
- Knowledge of the principles and practices in the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans
- Knowledge of the principles of public health practices; and of disease management and risk analysis
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to organize information and evidence
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work
Skills
- Experience using Microsoft Windows, Excel, LaserFiche, SharePoint and Sequel is preferred
Work environment
- Regular and punctual attendance Monday – Friday
- Must respond to external communications within 72 hrs (3 business days) of receipt
- Must respond to internal communications within 24 hrs (1 business day) of receipt
- Must respond within 15 minutes while working remotely during business hours if contacted by your Manager unless on pre-approved leave or recognized lunch/exercise break
- Frequent use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones
- Frequent sitting

Monthly Salary: $10,106.25
