Job Description And Duties

The incumbent will support the California Department of Public Health's mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness and improving state health outcomes. They will conduct extensive and complex investigations, initiate enforcement actions, provide educational outreach, participate in team planning, evaluation, and quality improvement, maintain technical proficiency, and cooperate with industry and government agencies.

This position is designated as a peace officer per California Penal Code 830.3 (f) and (h). It requires carrying a firearm and being proficient in its use, as well as knowledge in use of force as prescribed by department policy. As the position advances, the incumbent will train and lead staff in field investigations and conduct more complex criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Supervising Food and Drug Investigator of the Food and Drug Branch (FDB), Food Investigations and Technical Support Section (FITSS), Food Safety Enforcement Unit (SEU).

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which reduces monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. The salary range is $6,339.00 - $8,558.00 A and $7,306.00 - $10,609.00 B. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
