About the Role
This position provides instructional and behavioral support to students with autism in a primary educational setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with autism.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
- Support students with communication, social interaction, and behavioral needs.
- Assist with daily living skills, including hygiene, feeding, and mobility as needed.
- Monitor and document student progress and behavior.
- Prepare instructional materials and adapt classroom activities to meet student needs.
- Assist with data collection and reporting as required by the IEP.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support student success.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 48 college credits OR passing score on the ParaPro Assessment OR two years of full-time equivalent experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
- Ability to work effectively with students with autism and other disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
- Must be able to lift and move students or equipment as needed (up to 50 pounds).
- Must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of negative tuberculosis (TB) test.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
- Experience working with students with autism or other developmental disabilities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
- Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or equivalent training.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
