About the Role

Bismarck Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Reading Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. Exact building placement is yet to be determined.

This position is open to external teaching applicants, including current BPS employees in support staff, temporary, or substitute positions. Current contracted part-time BPS teachers seeking a full-time position should also apply externally.

A teaching contract consists of 187 days. External applicants may bring up to 17 years of K–12 teaching experience.

Qualifications

  • Valid North Dakota teaching license or the ability to obtain one by the start of the school year.
  • Licensed for K–5.
  • Kindergarten endorsement or a passing score on the Early Childhood Praxis.
  • Reading credential preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted, data-driven interventions (SBR and district-approved) to ensure student success.
  • Instruct students individually or in small groups (preferably four or fewer).
  • Create schedules based on skill needs, using push-in and/or pull-out service models.
  • Collaborate with teams to assess, review, recommend, and deliver student interventions (RTI).
  • Attend District Reading PLC meetings, Building PLC meetings, IEPs, and other related meetings as necessary.
  • Follow Title I guidelines according to the school’s program (targeted assistance, district look-alike, or school-wide).
  • Maintain student records and submit required paperwork.
  • Plan and oversee reading instructional aides, if applicable.
  • Travel to multiple private school buildings during the day (up to five stops).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
