Job Responsibilities
- Provides direction, consultation, and coordination to ensure comprehensive and sequential curriculum and instruction in reading
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress
- Aids teachers in modifying instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs, to reach or exceed reading standards and goals
- Documents teaching and student progress, activities, and outcomes
- Affords feedback to administration and teaching staff regarding student progress and achievement and the effectiveness of the reading curriculum
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for related student activities and achievement as required by CCS procedures and applicable laws
- Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
- Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
- Counsels and supports teaching staff in implementing reading programs
- Ensures compliance with the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and the PA Code of Professional Conduct for Educators
Qualifications
- A four-year college degree and PA Reading Specialist (PK-12) Teacher Certification
- Minimum of 5 years experience and demonstrated competence teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
- Ability to lead a professional teaching staff in the reading program
- Knowledge of basic computer operations
- Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
- Absides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and the PA Code of Professional Conduct for Educators
