About the Role
The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of reading acquisition and pedagogy, learning theory, and best practices for effective Tier I, II, and III instruction. This position involves school-level leadership in reading and language arts, coaching, and collaboration with the school and division team.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily leadership and support for elementary math instruction through coaching, participation on school action teams, collaboration with school leadership, reading specialists, additional coaches, and direct work with teachers.
- Support teachers in implementing all facets of math instruction using coaching strategies such as coaching cycles, modeling instruction, co-teaching, and collaborative planning.
- Assist teachers in using data to identify student needs, form groups, select resources, and inform instruction.
- Participate in collaborative planning to support the implementation of the HCPS Instructional Model, aligned curriculum, and integration of research-based practices in math instruction.
- Assist teachers with selecting instructional materials that adhere to the HCPS aligned curriculum, stimulate learning, and meet the needs of all students in a learner-centered classroom.
- Collaborate with school leadership to identify mathematical needs based on data, develop school literacy goals, and implement plans to achieve those goals.
- Use school data to design and deliver professional learning experiences for instructional and additional staff that support math instruction and align with the HCPS Instructional Model.
- Establish trust, rapport, and credibility with the entire school community.
- Facilitate conversations with individual teachers, grade-level teams, entire staff, and other groups.
- Communicate and collaborate with other staff, including exceptional education, LIEP, gifted, reading facilitators, and division-level coaches to support learning for all students.
- Collaborate with Title I lead instructional coaches, coordinator, and the Title I specialist, including attending monthly math and Title I professional learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning experiences to examine practices, share ideas, problem-solve, and develop best practices.
- Assist with the creation of family engagement events and school-wide initiatives that promote math.
- Maintain an inventory of Title I materials, including mathematics materials, and oversee the organization of text and resources in the bookroom.
- Stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices related to classroom instruction, effective schools, and student achievement.
- Use expertise as a math leader to deliver small group instruction as needed.
- Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, families, school and division staff, patrons, and community agencies.
- Maintain documentation to ensure Title I compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must hold a current, active teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Master’s degree with a Mathematics Specialist endorsement is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in grades K through 5.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
Pay
Minimum annual salary: $62,803 (Bachelor’s), $65,818 (Master’s), $68,977 (Doctoral).
