About the role
This para-professional position supports students in the Resource Room program, assisting with instructional and behavioral needs under the direction of certified staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to students with disabilities.
- Support students with behavioral interventions and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Help students with personal care needs as required (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility).
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Assist with classroom management and organization.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support student success.
- Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other non-instructional times.
- Operate and assist students with adaptive equipment and assistive technology.
- Perform clerical duties such as preparing materials, maintaining records, and organizing instructional spaces.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit, or
- Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or equivalent local assessment, or
- Associate degree or higher.
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Must be able to pass a background check and provide required documentation (e.g., transcripts, certifications).
