About the role

DonorConnect is seeking a full-time Tissue Recovery Coordinator to work in a fast-paced environment where you will make a difference every day by sharing the gift of life through tissue donation and transplantation. Ideal candidates have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with operating room or hospital settings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and recover bone, skin, and cardiovascular tissue
  • Work with the Tissue Referral Specialist to identify potential tissue donors
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of human anatomy and demonstrate excellent aseptic and tissue recovery techniques
  • Maintain a low surgical error rate
  • Assist with documentation, reviewing medical information, and working with supply coordinators
  • Obtain needs reports from contract sterilizers and the Office of the Medical Examiner
  • Maintain understanding of DonorConnect and other agencies’ policies
  • Assist with training of new Tissue Recovery Technicians

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Medical background such as RN, LPN, M.A., O.R. tech, mortician, or Tissue Bank Specialist
  • CTBS certification required within the first two years of employment

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year’s experience in an operating room environment or related medical background

Skills

  • Knowledge of the organ and tissue transplant fields
  • Understanding of the operating room environment
  • Familiarity with related computer applications
  • Excellent public relations and interpersonal abilities
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel in hospital settings and within differing institutional guidelines
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and long hours when needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, squat, or bend frequently
  • Ability to move up to 70 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Exposure to patient elements including communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and other clinical hazards
  • Ability to reason logically, make sound decisions, consider diverse perspectives, and communicate effectively

Schedule

This is a swing shift and weekend position.
