Tissue Family Services Coordinator 1 (TFSC 1)

The Tissue Family Services Coordinator 1 (TFSC 1) under the general direction of the Regional Clinical Manager, Family Services - Tissue, is responsible for coordinating support for potential tissue/eye donor families. The TFSC 1 provides emotional support during and after discussions of the donation process, establishes rapport with donor families, and works with hospital staff.

• Establishes initial contact with potential donor families over the phone, offering tissue and eye donation options in compliance with regulations.
• Documents donor families' medical and social histories accurately.
• Provides trauma, grief, and bereavement support services over the phone.
• Connects donor families with local resources for additional support.
• Communicates plans for grief and bereavement services to the Aftercare Team.
• Completes necessary documentation within established time limits.
• Collaborates with local funeral homes and whole-body donation programs.
• Works with clinical personnel, DSC, Tissue AOC, HS, and TR during donor management.
• Triage phone calls from the Donor Services Center regarding tissue donation needs, hospice referrals, and medical evaluations.
• Collaborates with hospice nurses, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities to honor donor wishes.
• Navigates sensitive conversations related to the rejection of tissues post-donation process.
• Initiates follow-up support to donor families and non-donor families as needed.
• Participates in continuing education opportunities.
• Attends regular Infinite Legacy staff meetings, FS team meetings, and case reviews.

Education and Experience: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, nursing, or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree may be considered with relevant experience. 1-2 years’ experience in acute healthcare settings, hospice, bereavement counseling centers, crisis intervention, etc., involving death, dying, grief, and loss.

• Ability to interact with grieving families in a supportive, empathetic manner, considering cultural diversities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Technology proficiency for accessing Infinite Legacy databases, drafting letters, sending/receiving emails, and accessing the internet.
• High level of self-motivation, accountability, and time management.
• Manual dexterity for operating telephones and computers.
• Computer literacy in a Microsoft Windows environment and competency in Microsoft Office software.
• Minimal level of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and tuberculosis.

Working Conditions: Frequent prolonged use of computer screens may cause visual fatigue. Potential travel to donor hospitals, donor's family home for support during maternal blood draw process, off-site meetings, and Infinite Legacy functions in all weather conditions. Exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents with little likelihood of harm if proper precautions are followed. Essential personnel, expected to work in inclement weather conditions. This position is 100% clinical.
