What You’ll Do

  • Setup and operate a variety of machinery to blueprint specifications.
  • Produce parts to the highest-level finishes and tolerances.
  • Use various measuring tools and instruments for precision measuring.
  • Read part drawings with sectional views.
  • Move controls to set specified speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces.
  • Lifts and positions work piece manually or with a hoist and secures it between wheels and on work rest.
  • Work independently; assist less experienced machinist.
  • Demonstrate personal leadership; actively participate in or lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrate flexibility when confronted with high stress or emergency situations, priority changes, or new assignments.
  • Interact professionally when interacting with customers and employees.
  • Produce and maintain a consistent quality of work.
  • Recommend improvements for area product and processes.
  • Set the department standards in areas of housekeeping, attendance and teamwork by example.
  • Practice good communication with employees at all levels.

Basic Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Maintain math skills - basic math skills required, advanced preferred; general computer skills; knowledge and understanding of various measuring devices.
  • Equipment knowledge - load, unload, move, stack and stage product and materials using forklift; use of overhead crane; maintain the facility’s equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.

  • Listening – understand and retain oral job-related information and instructions received from coworkers and supervisors. Listen for alarms and monitor equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Seeing – visually monitor machine to ensure proper mechanics are maintained and identify problems; specifically paying attention to detail.
