Thread/ Grind Operator Level 2 2nd shift

About the Role

Working under minimal supervision, Level 2 Operators demonstrate the ability to perform Level 1 responsibilities while developing and applying intermediate manufacturing skills. Level 2 Operators are capable of performing basic machine setups, operating assigned equipment, conducting in-process inspections, interpreting work orders and process documentation, and using a variety of inspection equipment. Depending on the assigned work center, Level 2 Operators may perform grinding, thread/form rolling, fillet rolling, or other related manufacturing operations. Operators are expected to have a working knowledge of their assigned equipment and processes, perform basic troubleshooting, and maintain quality and production standards.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain job assignments and instructions from the Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Work safely in accordance with plant safety guidelines, including all Cardinal Rules of Safety.
  • Operate assigned manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform basic machine setups and adjustments within established procedures.
  • Load and unload material and properly position parts for processing.
  • Interpret work orders, process sheets, prints, and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform full in-process inspections to ensure parts meet established quality specifications.
  • Use appropriate inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, comparators, surface finish measuring equipment, and other required measuring devices.
  • Apply basic shop mathematics to complete assigned work.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes and communicate issues to the Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Demonstrate basic familiarity with assigned tooling and equipment, which may include grinding, thread/form roll, fillet roll, feeding systems, and related manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment, including grinders, thread/form roll machines, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other assigned equipment.
  • Complete production reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete required transactions in the Quality Management System and other applicable systems.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Perform daily housekeeping and 6S activities as required.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, follow instructions, and assist other team members as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, Leads, Supervisors, Managers, Quality, and other departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, process sheets, and basic manufacturing prints.
  • Intermediate knowledge of print reading and inspection processes.
  • Intermediate ability to use and interpret measuring equipment, including:
    • Basic understanding of shop mathematics.
    • Basic understanding of grinding, thread/form rolling, fillet rolling, or other assigned manufacturing processes.
    • Basic familiarity with machine tooling and equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic machine setups and adjustments.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing materials and their characteristics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, Leads, Supervisors, Managers, and others.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to become certified to operate a forklift and overhead crane, as required.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to government/military contracts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Typically 1–3 years of manufacturing experience, prior military experience, or a technical certification/degree.
  • Previous experience operating manufacturing machinery preferred.
  • Experience with grinding, thread/form rolling, fillet rolling, or similar manufacturing processes preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Constant exposure to an indoor manufacturing environment.
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise.
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot/cold temperatures, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces.
  • May be required to work around hazardous machinery, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other industrial equipment.
  • Standing and working on concrete floors for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work any shift, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, as scheduled.
