About the role

The Think Big Program (Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology Program) offers a two‑year curriculum that combines classroom instruction at Illinois Central College in East Peoria with paid internships at Altorfer branches, rotating every 8 weeks. Students earn an Associate in Applied Sciences while gaining hands‑on experience in a high‑demand skilled‑trade industry. Altorfer is a third‑generation, family‑owned company with over 35 locations and 1,300 employees, known for a collaborative, family‑valued culture and a strong reputation in the field.

Responsibilities

• Attend Illinois Central College for 8‑week classroom blocks.
• Complete 8‑week paid internships at Altorfer branches, rotating throughout the program.
• Participate in coursework including Fundamentals of Hydraulics, Caterpillar Engine Fuel Systems, Fundamentals of Electrical Systems, Diagnostic Testing, and Undercarriage/Final Drives.
• Maintain a safe warehouse/shop environment: walk, climb on/off equipment, bend, lift, and wear required safety gear as needed.
• Occasionally sit at a desk to answer phones, write, or use a keyboard for email communication.
• Remain flexible to work varying schedules and hours as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (or pending).
• Valid driver’s license (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).
• Ability to lift 75‑100 lbs.
• Maintain an above‑average grade point average.
• Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
