About the role
The Thermal-Hydraulics Test Engineer II supports validation of thermal-hydraulic performance for safety-related and non-safety-related systems as part of the SMR-300 design certification and commercialization effort. This role works within a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop, execute, and document test programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop test requirements based on SMR-300 design and analysis inputs
- Translate technical requirements into detailed test plans, procedures, and specifications
- Support design, setup, commissioning, and operation of thermal-hydraulic test loops and facilities
- Execute test programs, including on-site testing and extended test campaigns
- Ensure proper data acquisition, validation, and quality control in accordance with QA standards
- Perform data reduction, analysis, and visualization to support engineering conclusions
- Prepare comprehensive test reports and data packages for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure alignment between testing and design objectives
- Interface with test sponsors to define requirements, communicate progress, and deliver results
- Ensure all testing activities comply with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Identify and resolve technical issues encountered during test planning and execution
- Support continuous improvement of test methods, tools, and processes.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 0–2 years of relevant laboratory or test engineering experience
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and P&IDs
- Experience with data reduction, analysis, and visualization
- Experience working in a QA-controlled or safety-related environment
- Ability to support on-site testing, extended test campaigns, and occasional travel
- Ability to work with minimal direction to solve complex technical problems and provide timely recommendations
- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills
Qualifications
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline (desirable)
- 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in laboratory or test engineering environments (desirable)
- Experience with test loop/facility setup, commissioning, and operation (desirable)
- Proficiency with Python and/or MATLAB for data reduction and visualization (desirable)
- Familiarity with instrumentation selection, calibration, and data acquisition systems (desirable)
- NQA-1 quality assurance experience and knowledge of U.S. NRC licensing processes (desirable)
- Experience developing test plans, procedures, reports, and design verification documentation (desirable)
- Experience interacting directly with internal or external test sponsors. (desirable)

$105,000 - $125,000 annually
