At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Our first MK1 Lunar Lander, “Endurance,” will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon. Our second MK1 will deliver NASA’s VIPER rover, and NASA recently selected Blue Origin to fly two more MK1 landers to deliver Lunar Terrain Vehicles.

About the role

We are looking for an expert drafter to join the MK1 Lunar Lander team. In this role, you will use your technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required. Responsibilities

  • Prepare design layouts, create detail part and assembly drawings/MBDs, and release data sets using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
  • Support engineering teams in the development with mechanical layout and detail design and drawing for structural detail parts and assemblies.
  • Apply relevant company (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, layout, and maintain data depicting engineering designs (detail, assembly, and installation drawings or datasets).
  • Implement engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Design active thermal hardware (tubing, radiators, coldplates, pump assemblies, etc.) and/or passive thermal hardware (multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets, Thermal Protection Systems (TPS), etc.).
  • Work in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in drawing generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
  • Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, demonstrating pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8 years or greater proven experience.
  • Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining, etc.).
  • Experience designing for manufacturability.

Pay

  • CA applicants: $39.34 - $55.07 per hour
  • CO applicants: $36.06 - $50.48 per hour
  • WA applicants: $39.34 - $55.07 per hour
  • Other site ranges may differ
