Therapist - MLK BHC Residential

HealthRIGHT 360 gives hope, builds health, and changes lives for people in need by providing comprehensive, integrated, compassionate care that includes primary medical care, mental health services, and substance use disorder treatment. Our residential treatment services are designed to serve individuals and families with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders, helping clients address addiction, increase skills, manage stressors, connect to supportive services, and build a foundation for lasting recovery.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Behavioral Health Center (MLK BHC) is a program of HealthRIGHT 360 and is contracted with the Department of Public Health's Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program. MLK BHC offers residential Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) services for a maximum of 99 adult individuals, comprising 33 beds each for judicially involved men, men, and women. The program collaborates closely with other Behavioral Health Center programs to ensure a comprehensive range of services for low-income and Medi-Cal-eligible individuals in Los Angeles County.

About the role

The Therapist I holds a valid registration from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and conducts clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning, interventions, crisis management, and discharge planning. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal client care, aligning with HealthRIGHT 360’s mission and policies. Therapeutic approaches include individual, group, and family therapy delivered in outpatient, residential, or field settings. Therapists also participate in on-call rotations and may respond outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough clinical assessments and diagnoses, developing client-centered treatment plans and monitoring progress.
• Address mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms using individual, group, and/or family therapy.
• Deliver crisis assessment and intervention, including after-hours coverage on rotation with other therapists.
• Ensure thoughtful discharge planning for safe client transitions.
• Collaborate with case managers, counselors, medical staff, and psychiatrists, maintaining frequent communication and participating in clinical team meetings, case conferences, and plan development.
• Seek clinical consultation for high-risk or new clinical circumstances.
• Meet expected client care hours per week and maintain compliance with clinical documentation due dates, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcome measures.
• Write client progress letters and court reports, obtaining supervisor approval, and ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42-CFR, and agency policies.
• Complete assigned Uniform Reporting Codes (URCs) in a timely manner and maintain full compliance with California BBS regulations.
• Attend and actively participate in clinical group supervision, agency and team meetings, and training opportunities.
• Pursue certifications in evidence-based practices and complete assigned training promptly.
• Arrange work schedule in accordance with agency needs, including reading and responding to emails as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field from an accredited graduate school.
• Valid registration from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT, APCC, or ASW.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Valid California Driver’s License and access to registered and insured transportation preferred.
• Experience treating clients with substance use disorders, mental health issues, and/or co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Must complete a background check and Live Scan.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with one day per week from 12:00 PM–8:30 PM.

Pay

Placement within the compensation range is based on factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, internal equity, and organizational compensation practices. The range reflects the expected pay for the primary work location, with potential adjustments for geographic location and applicable state or local pay transparency requirements.
