About the Role

Works with patients to promote optimum mental and emotional health at The Healing Tree, a therapeutic center for traumatized children supported by Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Develops comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and clinical impressions responsive to age-appropriate patients/family needs and concerns.
• Performs differential diagnosis of mental/emotional disorders using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
• Diagnoses biopsychosocial functioning, disability, and impairment for age-appropriate patients/families.
• Develops treatment intervention plans with clinical impressions that are diagnostically driven and outcomes-focused, in collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team.
• Builds effective working relationships with patients/families to engage, collaborate, advocate, and problem-solve in support of their mental health strengths and functioning ability.
• Utilizes differential diagnostic skills and employs various clinical treatment interventions, including but not limited to:
  • Crisis intervention
  • Solution-focused therapy
  • Individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy
  • Grief and bereavement counseling
  • Play therapy and sand tray therapy
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Mental status exams
• Initiates Baker Act proceedings when necessary.
• Facilitates Marchman Act proceedings when appropriate.
• Supports patients’ psychosocial adjustment along the continuum of care and transition to the next level of care.
• Provides mental health education, information, consultation, and professional support regarding patient/family needs to healthcare team members and colleagues.
• Demonstrates initiative and leadership in developing mental health services responsive to patient care demands.
• Identifies practice improvements based on continuous quality improvement.
• Maintains up-to-date, accurate, and appropriate records of mental health activities in patients’ medical charts without violating confidentiality.
• Meets department/hospital expectations for growth goals as outlined in coaching plans.
• Performs independently and provides clinical practice in a healthcare setting.
• Supervises and participates in teaching within the department, hospital, and community.
• Handles care coordination responsibilities and related functions appropriate for the patient population.
• Maintains subspecialty credentialing when appropriate for the clinical setting (e.g., sexual abuse, EMDR, CAP, CBT).
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Complies with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Maintains and enhances knowledge of human growth and development across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations through educational opportunities.
• Pursues continuing education as required by department policy.
• Participates in local, regional, state, or national activities to strengthen community engagement.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Two (2) years of direct clinical experience, preferably in a health or mental health setting, with an emphasis on the population served in the assigned area.
• Maintains Florida state licensure under Chapter 491 Florida Statutes as one of the following:
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
