About the Role

The Primary Therapist must be capable of performing independent work in the primary care and treatment of individuals diagnosed with substance use and/or co-occurring disorder(s). The therapist is responsible for completing an initial assessment using a biopsychosocial instrument, providing an interpretive summary, and documenting and executing a collaborated treatment plan. Responsibilities include individual, group, and family counseling, as well as maintaining the core values of the agency.

Directly reports to: Clinical Director

Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments using motivational interviewing skills, culminating in an interpretive summary.
  • Utilize ASAM criteria to ensure appropriate level of care placement.
  • Utilize DSM-V-TR criteria to ensure accurate diagnosis.
  • Initiate treatment upon admission and develop a master treatment plan within 7 days.
  • Prepare integrated treatment plans for clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Document evidence-based practices in client records and maintain ongoing assessment of client’s level of care.
  • Ensure timely submission of concurrent reviews and maintain client charts.
  • Manage telephonic and email communications, addressing patient inquiries and relaying messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide weekly individual counseling sessions and group/family counseling sessions.
  • Deliver crisis intervention services to stabilize clients and enhance treatment.
  • Orient new clients to treatment facility processes.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to persons with substance use disorders and establish rapport with the clinical population.
  • Administer outcome tools to inform care.
  • Contribute clinically driven information in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Understand, speak, read, and write in English; prepare routine reports and correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Work hours required to fulfill job duties, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Carry/lift boxes weighing between 10 and 25 pounds and ascend/descend stairs regularly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management and ensure credentials are maintained and up-to-date.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (College or University education preferred).
  • Current license and ability to practice: CDCA, LCDC II, LCDC III, LSW, LPC, LMFT, LICDC, LISW, or LPCC.
  • Advanced knowledge of principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Advanced knowledge of individual and group behaviors and effective ways of working with people to support ongoing recovery.
  • Understanding of tools to establish rapport and therapeutic alliance with clients.
  • Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Significant knowledge of ASAM and DSM-V-TR.
  • Experience in running groups, seminars, meetings, or specialized therapeutic groups.
  • Basic knowledge of practice domains for substance use disorder counselors.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of private health or treatment information.

  • KIPU EHR software: Intermediate level.
