About the role

You would be responsible for assessing, diagnosing and providing clinical services for those with behavioral health disorders in our new 96-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Methodist Health System and Acadia Healthcare are opening Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health Hospital in June 2026 to expand access to behavioral health services across Southwest Iowa and the Greater Omaha area. The facility will offer a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient care for adults, seniors, and youth, including programs for mood disorders, dual diagnosis, geriatric psychiatry, child & adolescent care, PHP/IOP, and ECT.

Responsibilities

• Apply psychotherapeutic techniques and interventions in the delivery of services to individuals and families for the purpose of treating diagnosed emotional and behavioral health disorders.
• Conduct psychosocial assessment and develop an initial discharge plan.
• Conduct individual, group or family sessions as appropriate for the patient’s treatment plan.
• Provide initial treatment planning for patients based on assessment and coordinate any additional services needed; revise as necessary.
• Maintain documentation of therapy services provided to each patient according to facility and professional standards; revise as needed.
• Maintain a caseload as assigned.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with other staff to facilitate services for the patient as appropriate to their treatment plan.
• Provide case management, discharge planning or after-care planning according to the treatment plan.
• May provide services in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
• May assist in educating and training staff on behavior management or therapeutic crisis intervention.
• May coordinate various clinical and psychosocial or educational activities with patients and their families.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards patients; acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
• Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Licenses/Designations/Certifications

• State or national licensure for professional therapy providers required.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or other recognized therapeutic field required.
• Two or more years’ experience as a therapist with one or more years’ experience with the specific population of the facility required.
