About the role

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health services, advocacy, and training in Los Angeles County. With over 19,000 low-income and no-income individuals served annually, MHALA focuses on integrated services in mental and physical healthcare, homelessness and housing, supported employment, and wellness and financial services. Special programs are offered for Veterans and transition-age youth, and MHALA provides training for the behavioral health workforce and the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services including psychosocial assessments, diagnosis, and therapy.
  • Support clients in accessing resources and building skills for better quality of life.
  • Collaborate with the team to provide clinical guidance and address member needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with MHALA standards and funding source requirements.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and communicate effectively about member concerns.
  • Document and bill in accordance with MHALA and County Contracted Provider standards.
  • Collaborate with the Wellness Center team to provide member-centered counseling and support.
  • Engage with program participants and their families to ensure their voices are heard and needs are met.
  • Attend professional development activities to enhance personal and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Licensed Social Worker (LCSW) or registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Social Worker (ASW)
  • One-year post-graduation clinical experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
  • Good basic English writing and computer skills
  • Current class C driver’s license, vehicle, valid auto insurance, and ability to be insured by MHALA liability insurance
  • Flexible, multi-talented, and able to work independently
  • Proficient in computer applications and knowledgeable about substance abuse and dual-diagnosis individuals
  • Adequate understanding of clinical concerns, ethics, boundaries, and best practices
  • Team-oriented, self-directed, and effective communicator
