About the role

The Therapeutic Mentor (TM) will provide one-on-one therapeutic mentoring, targeted psychoeducational support, and behavior-focused interventions to youth referred to the program. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Therapeutic Mentoring, the TM works closely with young people and their families to identify strengths and needs, develop individualized care plans, and implement interventions grounded in a Positive Youth Development framework.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one therapeutic mentoring, targeted psychoeducational support, and behavior-focused interventions to youth referred to the program.
  • Work closely with young people and their families to identify strengths and needs, develop individualized care plans, and implement interventions grounded in a Positive Youth Development framework.
  • Build trust, foster growth, and connect families with the resources they need to thrive.
  • Help students build social-emotional skills, navigate community-based supports, and advocate for services.
  • Coordinate care, deliver individualized support, and document progress in alignment with professional standards.
  • Serve as a community ambassador, leading outreach initiatives that reduce mental health stigma and promote wellness.
  • Expand the program’s impact and ensure families have access to timely, relevant support.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience working with children and families, especially those with intensive or complex needs.
  • Familiarity with community resources in Montgomery County, Maryland.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Comfort working within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.

  • Experience with community-based supports and mental health advocacy.
  • Knowledge of Positive Youth Development principles.
