Theater Technician II
Job Summary
Perform general technical work for the stage operations and have overall general theater knowledge. May fulfill one or more specialized roles. Assist with setup of lighting and sound equipment, scenery, props, hair, makeup, special effects, video and wardrobe materials for events at the Union Colony Civic Center, and occasionally at other locations.
Essential Functions
- Arrives in time to be prepared to work starting at the time indicated, with the following minimum required tools: closed toe shoes, multi-tool, small flashlight, adjustable wrench, gloves, and appropriate clothing for time of year/work assignment.
- Moves, arranges, assembles, and dismantles facility and performance equipment.
- Aids in the operation and/or setup of lighting, props, wardrobe, sound and video equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Coordinator or the Assistant Technical Services Coordinator.
- Attends all monthly staff meetings either in-person or virtually.
- Continuing training of UCCC Educational Materials.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Combination of office environment and work in the field at site locations.
- Working hours vary greatly from early morning to very late nights, weekdays and weekends including some holidays.
- Must be able to work in hazardous conditions, including but not limited to, inclement weather, in fumes from heavy equipment, and at heights in excess of 6 feet off the floor.
- Possible exposure to special theatrical effects including but not limited to theatrical smoke and haze, flashing or strobe lights, and prolonged exposure to loud environments.
- Manual dexterity to operate computer, small and large hand tools, vehicles and equipment.
- Flexibility to bend, twist, and reach out to load and unload equipment and supplies.
- Stamina and strength to move objects 20 - 250 pounds long distances.
- Vision to operate a variety of equipment at work sites.
- Required to stand and sit for long periods.
