About the Role

Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts (CCA) is a fine arts magnet school in Chattanooga, TN, serving students in grades six through twelve. The school offers a rigorous college preparatory academic program alongside an exemplary arts program where students major in one of eight disciplines: acting, instrumental music, communications/film, musical theater, visual art, vocal, technical theater, and dance. CCA fosters a climate of acceptance, cultural appreciation, and high expectations, with deeply involved parents and a supportive community.

We seek teachers who embrace our arts theme, are enthusiastic about working in a fine arts magnet school, and are committed to helping all students reach their potential through high expectations and individualized instruction.

Responsibilities

• Deeply understand the Tennessee Academic Standards for Fine Arts and establish clear learning targets and lesson plans for every lesson.
• Build rigorous, aligned assessments, administer district assessments, and consistently implement instructional best practices.
• Facilitate individualized instruction to prepare students for successful auditions for college/university degree programs, scholarships, and other awards and recognitions.
• Fully stage at least two theatre productions (plays or musicals) per school year, with additional classroom-based or smaller-scale performances as appropriate. A salary stipend is included for after-school rehearsals.
• Follow Hamilton County Schools’ instructional framework, including:

• Engage students in additional performance opportunities, such as Forensics competitions, One-Act play competitions, Thespian conference performances, and others.
• Teach non-Theatre classes if requested by the school principal.
• Build a safe and productive classroom culture that fosters student responsibility for theatrical equipment and promotes a growth mindset.
• Provide students with on-stage and off-stage roles (e.g., stage manager, tech crew).
• Develop strong relationships with students’ families and keep parents informed of expectations, progress, and concerns.
• Provide opportunities for parental involvement in student learning (e.g., building sets, making costumes, ushering).
• Actively participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) to improve teaching and student learning.
• Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing to the mission and goals of the school and district-wide Fine Arts department.
• Manage the program budget, including box-office operations, securing rights, fundraising, and other responsibilities to support continuous improvement and student opportunities.

Requirements

• Hold a valid Tennessee teaching certification in Theatre K-12 or be an upcoming graduate of an accredited teacher preparation program. If licensed in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
• Bachelor’s degree required.

Pay

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience, following the Hamilton County Schools salary scale. This position may be eligible for an increase in total compensation under the Differentiated Compensation Plan for designated schools and hard-to-staff positions.
