Test Management (Phlebotomy) Coordinator - Banner Ironwood (Day Shift)

About the role

Performs all technical and/or administrative work within assigned location/section at an advanced level of competency and efficiency. Acts as a resource, solving complicated and in-depth problems arising from routine and specialized testing procedures, as well as more sophisticated or unusual tests. Actively involved with quality improvement, research and development, and ensuring OSHA regulatory and CAP, CLIA, JCAHO accreditation compliance. Provides technical and procedural shift supervision (determine schedules, manage day-to-day workflow, and give input into assessments or disciplinary actions) in coordination with management. Develops training programs for staff and is involved in financial monitoring for the department.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily operational oversight (determine schedules, manage day-to-day workflow, and give input into assessments or disciplinary actions) for the shift.
• Provides technical and/or procedural support to all bench-level and/or functional-level positions within the section.
• May be responsible for a technical and/or administrative area of focus.
• Reviews records and ensures performance of all quality control procedures to maintain quality standards.
• Ensures quality assurance and instrumentation maintenance records meet standards of accrediting and licensing agencies.
• Assists management in implementing new QC/QA policies and continuous quality improvement programs.
• Provides support to management during inspections.
• Oversees the quality of performance of all levels of test management.
• Participates in section financial monitoring and improvement, including tracking supply usage and ordering as needed.
• Supports waste reduction and expense reduction programs, identifying potential for expense reduction within the section.
• Monitors financial activities within the section and assists management in controlling expenses throughout the year.
• Participates in basic personnel management, including selection, training, developing, coaching, and retention.
• Performs new employee orientation training and provides input for Functional Competency Assessments for employees.
• Serves as a resource and communication liaison, interacting with physicians, nurses, clients, and other healthcare professionals.
• Provides access to other system resources when appropriate and participates in department/system-wide committees.

Requirements

• Minimum age requirement of 18.
• High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• High level of personal maturity and responsibility.
• Good reading, writing, and math abilities.
• Oral and written communication skills sufficient to understand written and spoken instructions in English.
• Good organizational skills.
• Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• One year of experience within an SQL/LSA clinical laboratory environment, or two years’ experience with an equivalent combination of leadership skills, training, or experience, or an Associate’s degree in an Allied Health or related field.
• Ability to recognize problems, identify causes, and determine solutions.
• Thorough knowledge of instrumentation and procedures utilized in the section.
• Working knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Good leadership, human relations, and communication skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills and advanced computer skills in multiple systems, including Laboratory Information Systems and Hospital Information Systems.
• Ability to use multiple software programs.
• Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with the values of Laboratory Sciences of Arizona.
• Employees assigned to multiple locations/sections must be able to work all shift times within their designated territory.

Preferred Qualifications

• National phlebotomy certification.
• Previous management experience or participation in management training programs.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English).
• Additional related education and/or experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Pay

Starting at $22.87 per hour.
