Position Summary

The UX/UI and EV Routing test engineer will own the user experience of in-vehicle infotainment systems and automotive apps, with a particular focus on electric-vehicle routing and charger integration. This person will master the minutiae of these systems—from how navigation plans trips around charging stops to how station status and availability are presented in real time—and relentlessly critique the on-screen experience until it is clear, accurate, and effortless to use under real driving conditions. They will drive and validate every infotainment and app update that touches this experience, catching what others miss, and serve as the go-to owner of this topic. They will collaborate closely with UX designers, software engineers, and data teams, and help raise the bar for quality across IONNA’s network.

Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and execute manual and automated test cases for in-vehicle infotainment screens and automotive apps, emphasizing usability, layout, and interaction design
  • Test the integration between in-vehicle navigation systems and IONNA’s charging network data, including station status, real-time availability, estimated time of arrival, and routing recommendations
  • Validate electric-vehicle trip-planning features, including range estimation, charger-stop suggestions, and rerouting behavior when conditions change
  • Perform usability testing on infotainment interfaces, documenting friction points, confusing flows, accessibility gaps, and inconsistencies against design specifications
  • Log, prioritize, and track defects through resolution, working with designers and engineers to confirm fixes meet both functional and experience requirements
  • Support in-vehicle and bench testing across different automotive platforms, head units, and simulated driving scenarios
  • Contribute to test plans, acceptance criteria, and quality checklists for new features before they ship
  • Partner with product and UX teams to translate design intent into testable, measurable quality standards
  • Maintain clear documentation of test coverage, results, and known issues for each release

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience (recent graduates with exceptional skills and attitude, as well as internship experience, will be considered)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or a related discipline
  • Genuine interest in user experience and user-interface design, with an eye for detail in layout, navigation flow, and visual consistency
  • Basic understanding of mobile or embedded application testing, including manual test execution and defect tracking
  • Experience with test-case management (e.g., TestRail) and defect management (e.g., JIRA)
  • Exceptional communication and task-management skills to effectively progress discussions with important stakeholders
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and a willingness to learn automotive-specific concepts such as OCPP charging protocols and in-vehicle navigation systems

Preferred

  • Exposure to automotive infotainment platforms such as native OEM infotainment, Android Automotive, Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto
  • Coursework or project experience in electric-vehicle systems, routing algorithms, or geospatial applications
  • Experience with basic scripting or automation (e.g., Python) for test-data preparation or simple automated checks
