About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically versatile Vehicle Software Integration Test Engineer to support Human-Machine Interface (HMI), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI) validation for next-generation vehicle systems. This role works across hardware and software domains, supporting in-vehicle and TDK testing environments through debugging, software updates, hardware/software integration, and HMI validation testing.

Responsibilities

  • Set up testing and validation requests for HMI, UX, and UI features across vehicle infotainment systems on TDKs and vehicles.
  • Utilize in-house diagnostic tools and Android Debug Bridge (ADB) to debug and set up testing environments on vehicles and TDKs.
  • Work cross-functionally with software teams to set up and execute Python scripts for simulation and HMI testing.
  • Support the software download process.
  • Support hardware and software integration efforts by ensuring appropriate software levels are flashed and required DIDs are enabled for HMI testing.
  • Work with CAN hardware for signal simulation and record CAN information to support the deployment and monitoring of CAN signals across vehicle networks.
  • Troubleshoot issues across both hardware and software layers and identify fundamental root causes.
  • Retest systems to confirm issue resolution and enable HMI testing.
  • Apply an overall understanding of vehicle architecture and communication.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities, evolving test environments, and changing project demands in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Perform HMI validation testing and report QA concerns.
  • Document software methodologies and procedures while working cross-functionally.
  • Travel occasionally between Mexico and California.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry.
  • 3 years of experience in software testing.
  • Experience with Android Debug Bridge (ADB) for in-vehicle system debugging, or strong aptitude to quickly learn ADB.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and test tooling.
  • Solid understanding of hardware-software integration principles in embedded or automotive systems.
  • Experience with CAN bus interfacing hardware and CAN network signal deployment and monitoring, such as CAN analyzers, Vector tools, or similar.
  • Experience with User Acceptance Testing and HMI testing.
  • Experience with software documentation and documenting processes and procedures related to updating vehicles and test benches.
  • Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting ECU configurations and identifying root causes related to HMI testing.
  • Experience setting up vehicles and TDKs with appropriate hardware and software for prototype testing.
  • Basic understanding of SOA communication.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and connectors.
  • Ability to utilize debugging tools to configure bits and send CAN messages over a CAN bus.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of User Experience (UX), including Difficult to Use (DTU) experiences within the digital space.
  • Understanding of User Interface (UI) interactions and how they trigger and enable features.
  • Understanding of HMI design and its influence on UX and UI.
  • Prototyping experience, including swapping ECUs and manipulating wire harnesses to integrate prototype hardware.
  • Prior experience in HMI/UX/UI validation testing for automotive or embedded consumer products.
  • Master's degree.
  • Strong analytical and root-cause troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent adaptability, communication, and time-management skills in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
