Test Engineer

About the Role

When a user tries new software, they expect it to be intuitive and run smoothly. Functionality, reliability, and user experience are key to successful software development. The hardware architecture must be designed to perform correctly, consistently, and safely. This requires rigorous software and hardware testing. As a Test Engineer, you’ll collaborate with testers, developers, and engineers to evaluate software and hardware developed for the U.S. Space Force, improving the detection and visibility of satellites, objects, space debris, and tracking activity.

You’ll create test plans with test cases based on user stories, using automation to streamline processes. You’ll generate data, implement test cases (both automated and manual), observe performance, document results, and communicate defects to the development team for improvements. Additionally, you’ll automate continuous security and performance testing, monitor the health of the radar system, and support fault detection, isolation, and recovery efforts during system integration testing. You’ll also aggregate and analyze technical data, providing inputs to final acceptance test reporting.

This role offers the opportunity to broaden your experience in radar technology, space domain awareness, missile defense, and the space surveillance network (SSN).

Responsibilities

• Perform software and hardware testing on the radar system.
• Prepare test plans, procedures, and reports.
• Ensure effective communication between assigned engineers and all other participants in the integration and testing process.
• Support Agile software development teams.
• Support the development of system test solutions in accordance with project technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
• Participate in, prepare, and execute comprehensive system or element-level test plans and procedures, including test readiness reviews.
• Document test requirements and methodologies in the requirements management system.
• Review system engineering documentation to ensure test plans and methodologies meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, consistent, and complete.
• Support the development of system integration plans, procedures, and scenarios for software or hardware system integration testing.
• Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure technical quality and engineering rigor.
• Document and record integration activities, including plans, procedures, results, and deficiencies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with software and hardware testing.
• 3+ years of experience conducting formal requirement verification test procedures.
• 3+ years of experience preparing test reports.
• 2+ years of experience in the development of software requirement verification procedures.
• Ability to travel to OCONUS and CONUS locations up to 30% of the time.
• Top Secret clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with missile defense, space tracking, or satellite operations.
• Experience working as part of an Integration and Test team across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience as a member of a team integrating large, complex systems comprised of various hardware and software elements.
• Experience generating Modeling and Simulation (M&S) scenarios.
• Experience with international integration or testing.
• Experience with software development integration and test methodologies.
• Experience with large ground data processing system integration.
• Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
• Ability to support Integration and Test/Checkout (IATC) of Hardware and Software Configuration Items.
• CompTIA Security+ Certification.

Clearance

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.

Pay

Salary is determined by various factors, including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD).

Work Model

This role may require in-person collaboration at a Booz Allen or customer facility, depending on the work model:

• Remote: Primarily virtual, with occasional in-person requirements.
• Hybrid: Frequent work from a Booz Allen facility, with potential customer site visits as needed.
• Onsite: Work primarily performed at a Booz Allen office or customer facility, with direct collaboration required.

Employees working virtually are generally expected to have their cameras on during meetings to support engagement and effective communication.
