Test Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Test Technician III to join our Engineering team supporting robotics and automation hardware testing across North America. This role will be based out of Boston with extensive travel to support hardware functionality testing, test plan execution, and quality validation of robotic and automation systems at scale.
Responsibilities
- Execute black box test cases using established SOPs and test plans provided by QAE engineers
- Run automated test scripts, analyze failures, and gather logs/traces for further debugging
- Reproduce errant component or system behavior and file valid bugs with relevant details
- Interpret test results and document findings in clearly digestible formats (reports, wikis, dashboards)
- Manage and maintain lab infrastructure, test equipment, and test environments based on project needs
- Manage and improve team test suites
- Aid in training new QAT hires and providing instruction to associates involved in functional testing
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in a test, lab, or manufacturing environment (hardware preferred)
- Able to install and configure software/tools needed to run tests
- Basic knowledge of testing methodologies: functional, integration, system, and performance
- Able to debug, troubleshoot, and gather information required to reproduce system bugs
- Comfortable working with sensors, actuators, and electro-mechanical hardware in a lab setting
- Familiarity with basic lab equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, calipers
- Ability to follow wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical assembly instructions
- Basic data collection proficiency: Excel, data loggers, DAQ systems
- Exposure to scripting basics (Python preferred) for running automated test scripts
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Experience in a hardware testing, manufacturing, or quality lab environment
- Familiarity with automation or robotic systems (sensors, actuators, PLCs, HMI)
- Exposure to DVT, FAT, or SAT testing protocols
- Basic understanding of SPC, measurement systems, or calibration procedures
- Experience with 3D printers, hand tools, or light fabrication for test setup support
Skills
- Familiarity with basic lab equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, calipers
- Ability to follow wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical assembly instructions
