Test Engineer
About the role
Develops cost-effective test solutions that satisfy performance, quality, and validation requirements. Engineers and builds custom testing equipment, fixtures, automation systems, instrumentation connections, and related support hardware. Leads technical efforts involving the design, acquisition, installation, validation, calibration, and maintenance of equipment and systems used for data collection and product testing. Defines testing parameters, procedures, and execution plans, including sequencing and operational phases. Oversees all stages of testing activities, ensuring proper functionality, performance, and compliance with requirements.
Responsibilities
- Creates and utilizes software applications and integrated hardware platforms to evaluate electrical products, assemblies, and systems.
- Designs and constructs prototype hardware and test fixtures to support product development, manufacturing, and field evaluations.
- Reviews, interprets, and communicates test results through detailed technical documentation and engineering reports.
- Partners with engineering, manufacturing, scientific, and technical teams to troubleshoot product issues, investigate anomalies, and resolve data-related concerns.
- Verifies that testing applications and automated systems operate according to documented specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Authors Statements of Work (SOWs), engineering specifications, requirements documents, and validation plans.
- Evaluates product designs from a testability perspective and recommends improvements that enhance coverage, reliability, manufacturability, and overall cost efficiency.
- Produces engineering documentation including CAD drawings, electrical diagrams, and printed circuit board layouts when needed for test-system implementation.
- Works closely with cross-functional stakeholders to identify design enhancements that improve product quality and production readiness.
- Provides technical guidance and testing support to engineering teams, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and other internal partners.
- Performs verification and validation activities while documenting outcomes in accordance with customer expectations and quality standards.
- Prepares testing proposals, project estimates, quotations, development schedules, and production-cycle projections.
- Maintains compliance with ISO quality standards and adheres to established documentation, process, and quality-management procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical field; equivalent education combined with relevant industry experience may also be considered.
- 2+ years of experience supporting product test, validation, test development, hardware verification, manufacturing test, or related engineering functions.
- Hands-on experience developing and executing test solutions for electronic assemblies, circuit boards, PCBs, electromechanical equipment, or similar products.
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, programmable power supplies, and other common lab instrumentation.
- Knowledge of product validation and reliability methodologies, such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), statistical analysis, and root-cause investigation techniques.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including surface mount technology (SMT), PCB assembly, machining, metal fabrication, injection molding, stamping, and related production methods is preferred.
- Experience working within regulated or quality-driven environments and an understanding of industry standards and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to ISO-based quality systems, FDA regulations, and Quality System Regulations (QSR) is considered beneficial.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate data, and implement effective corrective actions.
