About the role
Working alongside a small team of Customer Support Engineers, you will provide hands-on technical support in the company's Detroit office, with a particular focus on the servicing, calibration, and configuration of client products returning from the field. You will follow established procedures to test equipment, identify basic faults, and ensure products are calibrated and operating correctly, escalating more complex technical issues where required.
Responsibilities
- Service, test, and calibrate high-end navigation and positioning systems for autonomous vehicles, geo-mapping, surveying, geo-spatial tech, aerospace drones, or robotics sectors.
- Manage the end-to-end customer returns/RMA process, including receiving and logging returned equipment, testing/calibration, tracking progress, creating dispatch notes, and ensuring efficient return to the customer.
- Use manual hand tools and technical software to test, diagnose, and configure equipment.
- Follow written test, calibration, and technical procedures accurately.
- Escalate complex technical issues as needed.
Requirements
Essential
- Practical service/test background (mechanical or electronics/electrical products) with problem-solving skills.
- Ability to test (using temperature meters, frequency meters, etc.) and calibrate/configure equipment.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable using manual hand tools and working hands-on with technical products.
- Good basic IT/software skills; comfortable connecting equipment to PCs and using technical software.
Desirable
- Previous test, calibration, electronics technician, or hardware support experience.
- Customer-facing experience, particularly in RMA/returns, testing, and diagnosing returned equipment.
- Automotive or vehicle-testing experience.
- Experience using electronic test equipment such as multimeters or similar diagnostic tools.
- Previous experience working with technical customers or within a 1st-line support environment.
