Job Summary/Essential Job Functions
The Term Research Technician 2 supports ongoing research in obesity and diabetes using genetic and surgical mouse models in the Department of Physiology. This position is supported by a Neuroscience Pilot Fund award and is tied to the duration and scope of the funded project.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and manages a mouse breeding colony, including routine husbandry coordination and record-keeping.
- Performs in vivo support activities, including weight monitoring, basic animal handling, and assistance with sample collection (e.g., blood and tissue) under supervision.
- Affords assistance with general organization of animal-related workflows and ensures timely execution of routine procedures.
- Performs PCR-based assays (including genotyping) following established protocols under close supervision.
- Affords support to routine laboratory assays, including ELISA and histology-based workflows, using established procedures (prior experience with these techniques is preferred but not required).
- Supports sample processing, data recording, and general laboratory organization related to experimental workflows.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
- EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years. (Prior experience with ELISA or histology-based assays is preferred.)
- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and standard operating protocols.
- Skill in following established experimental protocols and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks under supervision in a consistent and timely manner.
- Ability to handle and work with laboratory animals in a controlled research setting.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple routine tasks within a laboratory environment.
Work Schedule
This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
