University of Pennsylvania: School of Arts and Sciences: School of Arts and Sciences - Religious Studies Location Philadelphia, PA Open Date Sep 11, 2026 Description The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the Julie Beren Platt and Marc E. Platt Professorship in Jewish Studies, at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor. We seek a scholar who specializes in early modern or modern Jewish Studies. The primary appointment will be in one of the following three departments: Francophone, Italian & Germanic Studies; Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures; or Religious Studies. The candidate will also be expected to be an active member of the Jewish Studies Program. Applicants should demonstrate expertise and training in both Jewish Studies and in the field of departmental appointment, including the ability to work in relevant languages. The successful candidate must be an accomplished scholar as well as a dedicated and dynamic teacher. Applicants should demonstrate a substantial record of scholarly achievement, including sustained publication and research activity. We are especially interested in candidates with a proven commitment to academic citizenship, service, and leadership. The holder of the Platt Professorship will join the School of Arts & Sciences, which is comprised of 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. The University is home to the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, which supports a residential postdoctoral fellowship on an annual theme and maintains an extraordinary rare book and Judaica collection.
