Tenured Associate or Full Professor in Jewish Studies

About the role

The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the Julie Beren Platt and Marc E. Platt Professorship in Jewish Studies, at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor. The position is intended for a scholar specializing in early modern or modern Jewish Studies. The primary appointment will be in one of three departments: Francophone, Italian & Germanic Studies; Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures; or Religious Studies. The professor will also serve as an active member of the Jewish Studies Program and join a school comprising 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Jewish Studies and related departmental fields.
• Maintain an active research agenda with sustained publication and scholarly activity.
• Contribute to academic citizenship through service, leadership, and participation in departmental and university committees.
• Engage with the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies and its resources.

Qualifications

• Tenured Associate or Full Professor rank.
• Specialization in early modern or modern Jewish Studies.
• Primary appointment in one of the three specified departments.
• Demonstrated expertise and training in both Jewish Studies and the discipline of the primary department, including proficiency in relevant languages.
• Accomplished scholarly record with sustained publications and research activity.
• Proven commitment to academic citizenship, service, and leadership.
• Dynamic teaching ability and dedication to student mentorship.
