Tenured Associate/Full Professor in Biology

About the Role

The Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences (KDIS) at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a tenured Professorship in Biology at the Associate or Full rank. We seek broadly trained integrative biology candidates whose research connects with one or more themes in our department (Health, Brain, and Planet). We are especially enthusiastic about candidates who apply interdisciplinary approaches that span multiple levels of analysis. Specific domain expertise can include, but is not limited to, cellular, molecular, and developmental biology, neuroscience, physiology, genomics, ecology, and evolution.

The candidate’s research program is expected to include the application and/or development of computational approaches to study biological systems. The position will begin on July 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach an introductory course in biological principles (SCI 031LB) integrating chemistry, physics, and computation for all Integrated Sciences majors.
• Teach upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise supporting the department’s themes (Health, Brain, and Planet).
• Teach a general education course (SCI 010L) integrating science and computation for all CMC students.
• Mentor undergraduate students in research, demonstrating a track record of high-quality scholarship and a clear plan for continuing research at CMC.
• Mentor junior faculty and demonstrate leadership in service to the college commensurate with rank.
• Contribute to curriculum development and innovative pedagogies within KDIS.

• Evidence of a successful, active research program involving undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
• Prior experience in developing and designing curriculum and incorporating innovative pedagogies.
• Research program that includes computational approaches to biological systems.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment and valuing freedom of expression, viewpoint diversity, and constructive dialogue.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank and demonstrate:

• A track record of high-quality scholarship and a research statement outlining future plans.
• A teaching statement addressing ability to teach, mentor, and inspire students from broad socioeconomic, political, gender, racial, ethnic, national, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as course evaluations and sample syllabi.

Pay

Anticipated annual salary range: $140,000 - $210,000 depending on rank and experience.
