Position Overview

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2027. While any research specialty across ecology and evolution will be considered, particular interest is given to candidates whose teaching and research would attract students and expand departmental strengths, including conservation biology, molecular ecology, systems biology/omics, and environmental health. Candidates who can offer advanced biology electives that integrate computational approaches and global perspectives—supporting interdisciplinary minors in Data Analytics and Environmental Studies—are especially valued.

The successful faculty member will teach five courses per academic year, including Foundations in Ecology and Evolution (for all science majors), an intermediate‑level Methods course, and the Biology Capstone Seminar on rotation, plus elective courses aligned with their specialization. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active scholarly agenda, academic advising, and departmental and university service. Faculty will have the opportunity to work with undergraduate students in research laboratories and are expected to foster inclusive excellence, curricular innovation, and pedagogical creativity.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biology or appropriate subdisciplines from an accredited institution (ABD candidates may be considered if the terminal degree is earned by August 1, 2027).
• Strong commitment to student success and teaching at a residential liberal arts and sciences institution.

Pay
