About the role

The Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in organic/organometallic synthetic chemistry, beginning August 2027. We seek an individual who will establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, excel in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. Expertise in synthetic chemistry of macromolecules, green/sustainable chemistry, or areas complementing existing departmental research is especially encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program that produces high-impact scholarly publications.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry, including lecture and laboratory components; develop new courses and incorporate modern pedagogical practices.
  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students, including serving on thesis and dissertation committees.
  • Actively seek and secure external research funding from federal agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE), foundations, and other sources.
  • Participate in departmental governance, including committees on curriculum, instrumentation, safety, graduate admissions, and faculty searches.
  • Contribute to college and university service through broader academic committees and initiatives.
  • Engage in professional service, such as reviewing manuscripts and grant proposals, and serving on conference or professional society committees.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Relevant postdoctoral experience in synthetic chemistry or a closely related area.
