Tenure Track Faculty Position in Organic Chemistry

California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Organic Chemistry.

About the role

The successful candidate will teach introductory and general chemistry at the undergraduate level, and organic chemistry and special topics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participating in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. Teaching may occur on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online. The position adheres to college and department standards for tenure and promotion.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry and special topics
• Teach introductory and general chemistry at the undergraduate level
• Maintain weekly office hours
• Participate in faculty meetings and student learning assessment
• Serve the department, college, and university
• Mentor diverse undergraduate and graduate students
• Develop and sustain an independent research program in forefront organic chemistry, including publishing in top-tier journals, recruiting students, and securing extramural funding

Requirements

• Ph.D. in chemistry from an accredited institution, with thesis research in organic chemistry
• Clear potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in person
• Evidence of, or clear potential for, mentoring diverse students
• Productive research experience in forefront organic chemistry
• A well-developed, robust plan for independent research feasible at CSUN, including strategies for publishing, student recruitment, and extramural funding

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral or industrial research experience
• Record of recent primary research publications in mainstream, peer-reviewed journals
• Publication rate as first or corresponding author commensurate with experience
• Contributions to grant proposal writing
• Experience or potential for effective engagement with a diverse student body
• Experience using, or potential to use, culturally responsive pedagogy for equitable student outcomes
• Experience or potential for creating a student-centered learning environment
• Research/lab experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
• Experience adopting inclusive mentoring approaches
