About the role

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a tenure track faculty position in the Sociology Program to be filled by September 1, 2027. The position is open to scholars conducting theoretically-driven, empirical research on the sociology of health and illness at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on the sociology of health and illness, with a focus on medical sociology and health equity.
  • Teach in the Advanced Quantitative Methods series and several courses in sociological theory.
  • Mentor graduate students in the Doctoral Program in Sociology.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology.
  • Ability to teach in the Advanced Quantitative Methods series and several courses in sociological theory.
  • Expertise in medical sociology and health equity.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Science and Technology Studies; Sociology of the Body and Disability Studies; Reproductive Health and Justice; Health Equity and Justice; Mental Health; Population Health.

  • Excellence in teaching, mentorship, and research.
  • An established portfolio of externally funded research.
  • Able to contribute to a campus environment that fosters inclusive excellence for all students.

Benefits

The total compensation for this position ranges from $107,300 - $332,700. Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.

Pay

The total compensation for this position ranges from $107,300 - $332,700.
