Tenure Track Faculty - Department of Biological Sciences (Immunology and Hematology)

Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Biological Sciences invites applicants for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position with an emphasis in Immunology and Hematology, starting Fall 2026. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by January 4, 2026.

About the Department

The Department of Biological Sciences at Humboldt is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education, hands-on research, and fostering an inclusive and supportive academic community. Faculty expertise spans molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, ecology, and organismal biology. This position will contribute to the new Health and Medical Sciences degree program and the university’s transformation to California’s newest polytechnic university, emphasizing applied, experiential learning and active mentoring to prepare students for graduate school, health professions, and careers in biotechnology.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses including Immunology, Hematology, and Principles of Biology. In year two, may also teach one or two of the following based on expertise: BIOL 340 Genetics, BIOL 350 Cell Biology, BIOL 440 Genetics Laboratory, BIOL 450 Cell Biology Laboratory, BIOL 455 Cellular and Gene Therapy, ZOOL 312 Human Physiology, and/or ZOOL 270 Human Anatomy.
• Engage in research, scholarship, or creative activity, with a reduced teaching load during the first two years of the probationary period to support establishing a research program.
• Advise students and maintain office hours.
• Participate in campus and system-wide communities, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to traditional academic functions.
• Contribute to learning communities that bridge disciplines and incorporate environmental and social responsibility.

Requirements

• Earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Immunology, Hematology, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
• Record of training or experience in immunology, hematology, or a closely related biomedical field.
• Excellence in, or clear potential for, university-level teaching and creating a student-centered learning environment.
• Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals.
• Record of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
• Commitment to teaching excellence using a variety of methodologies.
• Experience with, or potential for, establishing an externally supported research program at a primarily undergraduate institution.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse student and/or research populations.
• Knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.
• Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Record of teaching effectiveness in undergraduate immunology and hematology courses.
• Established extramurally funded research program in immunology or hematology.
• Commitment to professional development in inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing diversity.

Rank, Pay, and Benefits

This position is sought at the Assistant Professor rank. The annual salary range is $74,652 - $158,688, with an anticipated starting salary of $80,000. Cal Poly Humboldt provides an excellent benefits package for faculty. More information about benefits.
