Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Studies

About the role

The Department of Cinema & Media Studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Global South media studies with expertise in Latin American, African, and/or African diasporic media cultures. Welcome subfields include but are not limited to media industries, South-South relations, sound studies, and reception studies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses per semester, including undergraduate and graduate courses that expand the geographic coverage of the department's course offerings
  • Participate in rotations to teach a large introductory lecture in media studies

Qualifications

  • Provide evidence of strong research potential (and media production experience, if relevant)
  • Show a demonstrated commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring a diverse student body at the graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Hold a doctorate in a relevant field by the time of appointment, July 1, 2027
