About the role
The Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising in the College of Media at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applicants for a full-time (100% FTE) tenure-track assistant professor position. The expected start date is August 16, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the department’s research, teaching, service, and public engagement missions.
- Teach courses in the department’s existing undergraduate and graduate curricula, including courses related to advertising and society.
- Develop new electives in advertising and society.
- Contribute to the College of Media’s interdisciplinary doctoral program and research community in the Institute of Communications Research (ICR).
- Contribute to the shaping of the future of advertising by emphasizing the “why” of advertising activities in broader social contexts.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant field, including but not limited to advertising, public relations, communication, marketing, psychology, information sciences, by August 16, 2027.
- Ability to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Research interests in areas such as Advertising and Societal Issues, Political Economy of Platforms and Attention Markets, Institutional Views of Advertising/Media Industries, Public Relations and Civil Discourse, Socio-Political Impacts of Media, Advertising, and Technology, Consumer Culture and Behavior, Policy Frameworks, Ethics, and Regulations of Media /Advertising, Societal and Environmental Impacts of Digital Media, Design Frameworks, Technological and Business Models.

- Promising record of scholarship.
- Eagerness to contribute to the department’s research, teaching, service, and public engagement missions.
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Experience in interdisciplinary research.
