About the role

The School of Information Science (iSchool) at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) seeks an Assistant Professor specializing in Public Librarianship, with expertise in Youth Services and programming, Adult services and programming, Community outreach and library services to underserved populations, Social justice issues, Intellectual Freedom, Emerging technologies, Leadership and advocacy, Collection development and management.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in library science and related fields.
  • Contribute to the iSchool's research initiatives and scholarly activities.
  • Engage in community outreach and provide library services to underserved populations.
  • Advocate for social justice issues within the library profession.
  • Develop and manage library collections, ensuring they are relevant and accessible.
  • Participate in professional organizations and contribute to the field through publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or a related field).
  • Experience in public librarianship, including Youth Services and programming, Adult services and programming, Community outreach, and library services to underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues and Intellectual Freedom principles.
  • Experience with emerging technologies and their application in libraries.
  • Leadership skills and a track record of successful advocacy.
  • Ability to develop and manage library collections effectively.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The position is expected to start on August 16, 2023, with a full-time appointment.
