About the role

The Parks & Community Services Department is seeking a dynamic person with a proven track record of motivating staff and providing innovative approaches to lead the Robinswood Tennis Center. The chosen candidate demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset, welcomes change, and confidently recommends innovative solutions that challenge conventional approaches when appropriate.

Robinswood Tennis Center operates as an Enterprise Program, which is charged with attaining full cost recovery of all assigned costs including direct operating expenses, maintenance, and select department and City overhead. The tennis center serves as a community resource, offering year-round public access, along with programs and events for people of all ages and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Interpret, review and develop policies and procedures associated with the tennis program implementation including outdoor park tennis and pickleball courts.
  • Programming: Ensure that tennis programs and services meet the broader community’s needs and interests with an emphasis on beginner to intermediate level instruction and play.
  • Staff Development: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate FTE and part-time staff, and take corrective action as needed; develop and manage staff engaged in administering programs and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Facility Management: Effectively schedule the facility in the most efficient manner to ensure the diverse array programs and services are best meeting the needs of the community.
  • Contract Management: Manage vendor contracts, as appropriate and/or assigned.
  • Community Relations: Respond to issues, inquiries, and requests related to outdoor park tennis and pickleball sites through the City’s customer assistance portals.
  • Budget: Develop, administer and manage program budget, track revenue and expenditures, develop and recommend pricing structure for program fees and revenue-sharing splits with vendors of contracted programs.
  • Marketing: Research and analyze market trends and program best practices and make recommendations regarding program direction.
  • Administration: Prepare and complete reports and other administrative responsibilities as appropriate and/or assigned in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in recreation, business, or related field(s). Five or more years of progressively responsible and related experience with planning, implementing, directing, supervising, and teaching tennis programs and operating a multi-court tennis facility.

Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the listed essential duties and responsibilities.

Candidate must successfully pass a criminal background check prior to being hired.

Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and procedures of budget development and control.
  • Ability to analyze programs and services for short-term and long-range planning purposes.
  • Ability to relate and work with a broad and varied population.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in public speaking, negotiating, conflict resolution and customer service.
  • Ability to create reports and presentations about the program to City Council, Park Board, other agencies, citizens, and business groups.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective employee management, motivation, and development.
  • Excellent working knowledge of databases (Civic Rec preferred), word-processing, spreadsheets, SharePoint, and other relevant software applications.

Pay

Salary range: $96,999.63 - $133,865.86 Annually

Schedule

Work schedule may require some evening and weekend hours.
