Tenant Defense Project- Paralegal

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing clients and potential clients, conducting intakes, and supporting assessment of potential representation.
  • Being the point of contact for clients; collecting and reviewing evidence and other documents, including visiting clients’ homes as needed.
  • Drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, declarations, applications, and discovery requests and responses.
  • Aiding trial, mediation, arbitration, and hearing briefs, exhibits, and other documents.
  • Attending trials and hearings.
  • Aiding with administrative and clerical duties, including electronic filing.
  • Maintaining electronic case files and documents and proper documentation in our case management system.
  • Providing language interpretation and translation to support with legal representation.
  • Working closely with other paralegals to advise on and implement team procedures and systems.
  • Providing client education, information, and referrals.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • A certificate in paralegal studies from an ABA-approved institution or BA/BS degree and at least 1 year of supervised law-related experience with an attorney who has been an active member of the CA State Bar for a minimum of 3 years is required.
  • 1-5 years of experience as a Paralegal is required.
  • Written and oral Spanish language proficiency is preferred as well as access to reliable transportation.
