Position Details

The University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources are seeking a full-time (40 hr/week), temporary Research Technician to support monitoring forest fuels and other forest management related objectives.

The ideal candidate will have experience in wildland fire, including previous or current “red card” certification and training. Specific qualifications include:

  • Maintenance of physical fitness
  • Knowledge of standard wildland fire management program requirements, methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of fire behavior, hazards, and accepted fire safety practices and procedures
  • Perform duties under stressful and adverse operating conditions, such as long work hours, heavy workloads, adverse working and environmental conditions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Can troubleshoot problems with equipment
  • Basic laboratory and data management skills

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Data Collection - 60% of time
  • Data Processing - 10% of time
  • Project Maintenance - 25% of time
  • Maintain physical fitness - 5% of time
