About the role
The Research Operations Coordinator will provide high-level operational, administrative, and organizational support to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of a growing lab focused on ribosome assembly, DNA mismatch repair, viral RNA processing, and advanced single-molecule fluorescence microscopy. The successful candidate will coordinate research and associated outreach activities, fostering a supportive and welcoming environment within the Physics and Astronomy Department.
The department enrolls approximately 120 graduate students and 140 undergraduate physics majors, with 57 faculty members. Research programs span astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, and experimental atomic and molecular physics.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day lab operations, including coordination and management of lab duties, standard operating procedures, orders, lab safety, data storage and backup, web and social media, team building, lab inventories, and lab budget.
- Coordinate research and outreach activities.
- Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and data storage/backup processes.
- Support website and social media updates.
- Support a summer research program for high school students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of related administrative, operational, or research support experience.
- Experience supporting research or laboratory operations.
- Experience with purchasing, inventory, or budget management.
- Experience developing or maintaining standard operating procedures.
- Experience with data management and/or website and social media management.
- Experience coordinating outreach or educational programs.
Pay
$26/hour.
