Temporary Teacher Subs

About the Role

USD Head Start has openings for Substitute Center Teachers and Substitute Center Teacher Aides/Food Service workers. These positions are funded by grants/other non-state funds. Both positions are on-call and as needed. There are no guaranteed number of hours.

Responsibilities

Teacher Aide/Food Service Worker Substitutes:

• Supervise children ages 3-5 in a classroom setting to replace a staff who is absent under the direction of a classroom teacher
• Assist with meal preparation and clean-up
• Eat with children
• Assist children with routines (toileting and handwashing)
• Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities

Center Teacher Substitutes:

• Lead activities and supervise children ages 3-5 in classroom setting to replace a staff who is absent
• Lead large and small group activities following a lesson plan
• Eat with children
• Assist children with routines (toileting and hand washing)
• Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities

Locations

Classroom locations include Beresford, Elk Point, Dakota Valley, Canton, Harrisburg, Tea and 3 locations in Vermillion.

Qualifications

Teacher Aide/Food Service Worker Substitutes:

• Experience working with children is preferred

Center Teacher Substitutes:

• Education or related degree and experience working with children is preferred

All applicants must:

• Pass background checks
• Provide own transportation to sites
