Temporary Supplemental Reg/Cert Respiratory Therapist

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina – Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Department of Supplemental Staffing

About the role

Performs all aspects and modalities of Respiratory Care for Health System patients following department guidelines. Responds to resuscitation situations and other respiratory emergencies. Maintains and completes appropriate documentation in patients’ charts and departmental records. Acts as charge therapist when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Administer continuous oxygen and continuous bland aerosol therapy per department guidelines
• Perform intermittent therapy and diagnostic procedures per department guidelines
• Access patient medication from the Medication Security Area to implement Respiratory Care per hospital and departmental policies and procedures
• Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation and complete appropriate documentation
• Provide airway management, ventilation, and closed chest compression during emergency resuscitation
• Perform intubations after receiving approval
• Assess patient condition and respond to respiratory care needs; make recommendations when necessary and follow established protocols
• Initiate and maintain monitoring equipment under the responsibility of the Respiratory Care Department
• Perform as charge therapist in the absence of a supervisor
• Charge for all services provided, including use of the BCX system
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT)
• Licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB)
• BCLS certified by the American Heart Association
• Understanding of medical terminology and current respiratory care modalities
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
• Knowledge of psychosocial, physiological, and spiritual needs across all age groups (per Erickson’s Model) to provide appropriate care
