About the role
The Science House (TSH) is the College of Sciences statewide K-12 STEM outreach unit. Established in 1991, TSH is a national model of university collaboration between university departments, businesses, and the K-12 community. TSH’s mission is to collaboratively maintain and develop K-12 teacher and student programs that inspire a passion for STEM learning, research, and discovery. The Science House achieves this through four strategic priorities: 1) Teacher Professional Development centered on equipping teachers to use engaging instructional practices, emerging technologies, guided inquiry, and project-based learning, 2) Student Programs focused on problem-solving, applied learning, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and competition, 3) Rural Satellite Offices that provide teacher professional development, student programs, and an Equipment and Technology Loan Program in rural, high-need areas, and 4) Broader Impact Support that helps NC State faculty in developing Impact Identities and carrying out broader impacts activities integrated with their research that advance open and participatory science.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver STEM-oriented instruction using project-based learning methods for adolescent students.
- Attends teaching planning sessions and training related to the STEM program.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, media and performance assessments to guide student learning and interest in STEM.
- Use technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with program director and staff to organize, develop, coordinate and evaluate STEM activities.
Requirements and Preferences
- Work Schedule: 5-10 hours, varies per week, Saturdays 8am-1pm, Summer or Track Out Camps: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm
- Minimum Experience/Education: BS or BA Degree with an emphasis in mathematics, science, technology, engineering or education.
- Other Work/Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and deliver STEM-oriented instruction using project-based learning methods for adolescent students. Required Experience and Education
- Minimum Experience/Education: BS or BA Degree with an emphasis in mathematics, science, technology, engineering or education.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- At least 1 year of related work experience.
- Prefer candidates with a current NC teaching certificate in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics related field, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field.
